THE PURPOSE OF THIS BLOG

A Mission Statement:

When reflecting on the current state of the historical field, one might conclude that this once-revered discipline has drifted from its foundations. Today, it often produces content that is misguided at best—or reduced to propaganda at worst. In many circles, especially in the United States and parts of the Western world, conversation is quickly stifled the moment it brushes against the controversial. The result? A thinning of dialogue, and with it, a diminishment of understanding.

Yet, this hesitance is not universal. In many parts of the world, individuals freely engage with challenging ideas—unburdened by the fear of ideological offense. It is this spirit—curious, bold, and unafraid—that I believe must return to vogue.

This blog was born from a desire to revive that spirit. Here, I’ll explore subjects that stir my curiosity—and, hopefully, yours as well. My interests tend toward the cosmopolitan and the mysterious: colonial legacies, forgotten empires, legendary figures, obscure individuals, the exotic and the unknown.

The rules of engagement here are simple: respect yourself, respect others, and understand that this is not a democracy. I reserve the right to moderate comments when necessary—but my hope is that this space fosters genuine, spirited discussion. Debate is welcome. Personal attacks are not.
